“iAM Smart” Personal Code

The “iAM Smart” Personal Code facilitates “iAM Smart” users to present their partial personal data in the form of a QR code during verification and registration processes, without the need to disclose excessive personal details by utilizing an identity card, and thus strengthening privacy protection.  Please refer to “iAM Smart” thematic website for the usage.

Organisations that adopt the “iAM Smart” Personal Code are not required to join the “iAM Smart” Sandbox Programme. The industry could develop “iAM Smart” Personal Code related applications independently. It is applicable to in person process such as visitor registration, access control facilities, event check-in, etc.

Developers may download “iAM Smart” Personal Code Developer Guide to understand the specifications of the QR code and necessary measures to verify its authenticity.  Third-party verifier shall validate the scanned QR code content by verifying the digital signature embedded in the QR code using the pre-installed public certificate, and such verification will fail without a valid certificate.  It is important for the developers to renew this public certificate before its expiry in order to maintain their serviceability.

During the implementation, it is essential for developers to comply with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance including the six data protection principles in the purpose and manner of Collection, accuracy and duration of retention, use of data, data security, openness and transparency, access and correction.  The Digital Policy Office expressly disclaims and excludes any obligation, responsibility or liability of whatever nature for any loss, damage costs or expenses (whether direct, indirect or consequential) arising from the use of or failure to use of the “iAM Smart” Personal Code.
